Boppard railway station is in the center of the town and only a short walk straight ahead (about 200 m) to the banks of Rhine and then right to the cruise boat landing stages near the castle Kurtrierische Burg.
Or walk from the railway station place first right (about 300 m) to the pedestrian zone to take a look into the all-the-year-round Christmas market in "The Christmas Shop" near the marketplace in Boppard and the big Severus church. There you can also stock up orginial german Xmas paraphernalia in all four seasons: christmas greeting cards, christmas song, christmas pictures, christmas carol, christmas games, christmas crafts, artificial christmas trees, christmas decorations, christmas gifts, christmas trivia, christmas lights, christmas ornaments, christmas gift ideas, christmas party games, christmas images, christmas puzzle, christmas stockings.
After your christmas shopping is done, walk a few meters to the market place, turn left and walk(about 200 m) to the banks of Rhine and then right to the cruise boat landing stages near the castle Kurtrierische Burg.
Stay a while in Boppard before embarking on a boat. The pretty town is full of medieval charm and worth seeing for its beautiful old buildings and many attractions like the Hunsruckbahn, a number of vineyards and much, much more.
Only along the 60 km of the Middle Rhine between Koblenz, Coblence and Rudesheim / Bingen there are about 30 castles, fortresses and ruins.
Being able to skip from one place to another also gives you the added advantage of being able to spend more time in the romantic and picturesque towns and villages along the Rhine: the Bingen-Ruedesheimer and Loreley-Linie cruise companies allow you to disembark and reembark at your leisure.
Here is a short desription of just some of the "must-see" sights between Boppard and Rudesheim:
The castle "Kurtrierische Burg" in Boppard and its museum.
Castle Liebenstein in Kamp-Bornhofen, which also houses a small, inexpensive 2- or 3-star hotel restaurant.
Castle Rheinfels in St. Goar the largest fortress ruin in Western Germany the museum is well worth seeing and the restaurant offers a panoramic view from its terrace.
Castle Schonburg in Oberwesel this small 4-star castle hotel restaurant has a cosy, familiar atmosphere.
Castle Reichenstein in Trechtingshausen, with a museum and an inexpensive 2- or 3-star hotel restaurant.
The stretch between Rudesheim / Bingen to Wiesbaden / Mainz, belonging to Rhinegau and Rhinehesse, is much flatter than the middle Rhine River. There are no castles or fortresses to be seen from the cruise boats along this route.
From Mainz to Frankfurt city or from Mainz to Frankfurt airport there are no boat day cruises. If you are coming from Frankfurt airport and if you are travelling by railroad, take the train from Frankfurt via Mainz to the Rhine River
